It’s already the start of a new month and we don’t know about you, but August seemed to whizz by. In fact, it’s been so busy for the Eclipse team that we’re only just getting around to writing our August roundup of the top digital and marketing updates.
The month of August saw a lot of updates in the marketing world. From new Twitter features to Google’s various updates, there is lots to unpack, so let’s get into it.
Instagram experiments with full-screen display
Yes, that’s right. Love it or hate it, Instagram is really trying to push its full-screen feed display. The update has been created based on user behaviour. The good news is, that it is still optional (for now), meaning there’s still time to update your graphics to fit the new full-screen feed.
LinkedIn is launching a new template
It’s been a busy month for LinkedIn as they’ve been working on several new features. They are launching a new templates feature to allow users to create more visually appealing content and posts. This is something that the platform has needed for quite some time, and it will be interesting to see how users respond to it.
Google Business Profiles test out captions on photos
Google is constantly experimenting with different features and August was no different. They have tested out a new feature that enables business owners to add captions and descriptions to images on their profiles. Adding captions and descriptions to images on a business profile is a great way for potential customers to easily learn about a product, and we think it’s a great additional feature.
Google update guidelines for business profiles
Remember when we said that Google liked to experiment with features and updates? Well, we weren’t lying. In early August, Google announced that duplicate content in posts was now to be considered spam. They are cracking down on businesses when it comes to posting the same photo, video, or text more than once. By updating its content policy, Google is urging businesses to publish unique content. This means you’ll need to be very careful to post unique content every time otherwise you’ll be penalised for it.
Twitter is testing ‘Tweet Tiles’
In an attempt to get more users to click and engage with posts, Twitter is testing a new “Tweet Tiles” display for publisher links. Tweet Tiles are a new way to expand a tweet’s creative surface, which is good news for businesses as it is a new way to make your tweets stand out.
