Facebook’s algorithm has now reached crazy levels of uncooperative. You’re lucky if a post reaches even 5% of your page’s audience, never mind people outside of your page. So, how do you increase Facebook engagement in 2019 so that more people see your stuff? We’ll tell you.
Post daily
As the saying goes, consistency is key, which is especially true for a Facebook business page. This is because people feel more connected to a brand when they hear from them often. So, make sure to post at least once per day to benefit from a more engaged audience.
If you’re struggling to come up with new stuff to post about, you could always repurpose older content. Alternatively, share posts from other accounts that you think your audience would find useful/enjoy. Just remember that your page content should always either entertain or educate.
Ask questions
Facebook is a social media network, so be social! Ask your audience questions, invite them to give their opinion on your post, run a poll. People feel more inclined to interact with a post on Facebook when the writer asks a direct question to the audience.
Show some personality
What is your brand’s persona? Is it funny, sociable and trendy? Or is it more professional, corporate and informative? Whatever it is, go with it. There’s nothing less engaging than a brand that has no personality. Some fantastic examples of brands who do this well are Innocent and Missguided.
Innocent go for comedic value, posting memes, ironic poetry, pop culture references and the occasional product mention. Missguided are aiming for more of a young, ‘feisty’ persona to fit with their clothing range. To do this, they post trending ‘relatable’ memes and pictures of beautiful young women modelling their clothes.
If the two companies were to swap their personas, it just wouldn’t work. It wouldn’t fit with the other brand’s overall message. That shows the importance of a clearly defined brand, too.
Use graphics in your posts
Having an image or video in your post dramatically increases its engagement rate. This is because graphics catch the attention of Facebook users amongst the cluttered news feed much more than a simple text post. So, make sure that your graphics are clear and on-brand to give that instant signal to your audience that this post is from you.
You can really get creative with it, too. Facebook allows you to post carousel photos, albums, single image posts and video, and you can link to a page on your site to direct your audience that way.
Check your insights
Checking your Facebook insights can give you an… insight… as to which posts are performing better than others. Really dig deep into them and try to discern which post types perform better than others, or which topics people seem to be more interested in.
Go live
For the brave, Facebook’s live feature can be an excellent way to increase engagement. Putting a face to your brand in the form of a live video is the ultimate casual interaction that makes people see your brand as more than just a company. It’s basically the entire reason that YouTubers can become so successful nowadays – people connect with personas.
Play a game
If you think it’s applicable to your brand, then you could try playing a game with your followers. This could quite literally be anything. However, common games include “the first person you @ owes you (x)”, “tag someone who needs (x)”, etc. They all massively boost engagement and help to get your Facebook page out to a whole new audience.
